What is acupuncture, and is it right for you?
Acupuncture stands as a remarkable practice, tracing its roots back to ancient Chinese medicine, and gained popularity as a holistic approach to health and wellness. Acupuncture practice revolves around the concept of Qi (pronounced “chee”), which is believed to be the body’s vital energy that flows along pathways called meridians. This technique involves the insertion of ultra-thin needles into specific acupuncture points along meridian channels in the body. Acupuncture has many health benefits and can be used to effectively release tension, relieve pain, diminish stress, promote digestive health, and promote blood circulation.

How does acupuncture work?
Acupuncture stimulates natural pain-relieving chemicals in the body, including a combination of endorphins and neurotransmitters. The release of these chemicals triggers the brain’s pain receptors to experience less pain.
Acupuncture also enhances blood flow to areas affected by muscle tension, promoting natural healing and aiding in the recovery process by boosting circulation to these injured areas.
During your first session, our acupuncturist at Physio In the Six Inc. will discuss your condition, review your medical history, and describe how treatment will benefit you. Next, your provider will examine your body and meridian channels for the areas that will best respond to acupuncture treatments.
The needles we use are sterile, disposable, and extremely thin. Needles will be inserted at various depths (but never deep) depending on your condition. Your specialized acupuncturist will determine the length of time the needles will remain inserted to get the best results for your complaint.
We also offer Facial Acupuncture, known as micro-needling, focused on improving the skin, fine lines, and wrinkles on the face, neck, and hairline. Acupuncture can also be performed in conjunction with other traditional treatment methods, such as GuaSha and Cupping.

ACUPUNCTURE ETOBICOKE FAQs
What Does Acupuncture Actually Feel Like?
Most people are surprised by how gentle it is. The acupuncture needles are very thin, and you’ll usually feel a tiny pinch—if anything—followed by a sense of calm or warmth in the area. Some clients even feel sleepy during their sessions, which is a good sign your nervous system is relaxing.
If you’ve been dealing with chronic pain, back pain, or even stress-related tension, this form of Chinese medicine can help your body reset and heal in a deeper way.
Is Acupuncture the Same as Dry Needling?
They may look similar, but they’re actually quite different. Traditional acupuncture is based on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and focuses on balancing energy along specific points on the body called meridians. Dry needling, on the other hand, targets tight muscles and trigger points based on modern anatomy.
Both are great tools, and we sometimes use them side by side. Your registered acupuncturist and physiotherapist will help you decide what’s best for your body and goals during your first visit or physical assessment.
How Do I Know If Acupuncture Is Right for Me?
If you’re feeling stuck—whether physically or emotionally—acupuncture might offer relief where other treatments haven’t. It’s gentle, drug-free, and treats the root cause, not just the symptoms.
We’ve seen it help with everything from poor sleep and digestive issues to myofascial tension, pelvic pain, and anxiety. At our acupuncture clinic in Etobicoke, we also offer options like cupping therapy and work closely with registered massage therapists for truly holistic care. Still not sure? Just contact us—we’re happy to talk it through.
